The Polish capital and its surrounding region are undergoing rapid change due to increasing mobility and infrastructural needs. The capital region is attracting considerable economic activity and immigration. Suburbanisation processes are mostly unplanned. A lack of good governance results in land use conflicts and related problems, such as encroachment of residential and commercial development upon agricultural and forest land. There is a need for the development of an integrated plan for the metropolitan area.
