Managing the Urban Rural Interface
Strategies and Tools for Urban Development and Sustainable Peri-urban Land Use Relationships

The conference is the final event of the PLUREL project: PERI-URBAN LAND USE RELATIONSHIPS – STRATEGIES AND SUSTAINABILITY ASSESSMENT TOOLS FOR URBAN-RURAL LINKAGES funded by the European Commission’s sixth Framework Programme for research (EC FP6 036921).
Scope of the event
The conference aims to i) present the status of scientific approaches to assess the peri-urban land-use relationships and associated effects on sustainability, ii) to set the agenda for future research in the field, and iii) enhance international research cooperation.
Target groups
The event targets a broad spectrum of participants, recognising the multidisciplinarity of research in urban and rural linkages. This includes, but is not limited to, those in the fields of land use, urban and rural development, planning, architecture, geography, economics and social and environmental sciences. Contributions may address methodological, theoretical issues, applications or dissemination, and participatory aspects.

Call for papers:
Abstract for oral and/or poster presentation (max 400 words) shall be submitted online to one of the 12 session topics. Please use the link for abstract upload>> .Abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee on clarity, appropriateness of the topic, methodology, originality and contribution to the field of research. Notification of acceptance will be sent 15th of June 2010.

Programme
The programme comprises plenary presentations, parallel sessions and poster sessions. Field trips to the city of Copenhagen and to the peri-urban region is offered on the first and last day of the conference respectively.

Field trips
A field trip to the city of Copenhagen will be offered on the first day of the Conference.
A field trip to the Urban-rural landscapes in the Copenhagen region – guided by Professor Jørgen Primdahl – will be offered on the last day of the conference. The peri-region comprises high landscape diversity, significant elements of cultural heritage, and is under increasing pressure from urbanization in all forms. The Urban-Rural interface has in parts of the region been shaped by the well known “fingerplan”.

Registration fees
Registration fee include conference materials, book of abstracts, refreshments, receptions and conference dinner. Participation in the field trip to Urban-rural landscapes in the Copenhagen region is additional to the regular fee.

Regular fee: 480 EURO
Student fee : 280 EURO*
Field trip: 60 EURO
